Yesterday start from parking lot before tunnel entrance at Ljubelj at 7.30. At the hut on Zelenica continue on path to Stol and Vrtača. At top of Vrtača 10.30 in three (couple from Celje arrived an hour before me). Views phenomenal, no bit of fog - reason occasional strong east wind that did its job so we quickly fled the top. At car at 13.30 for refreshment and back home. LP

Yesss, such conditions when it's just powdery, I really hate them. With crampons you scrape on rocks, without you're barefoot. Sfinga rocks! Go see it, super movie!!!

Snow was really some loose, crusty, partly frozen base. With hands just soaking into snow, no holds, so on rare sections for balance I grabbed rock directly, elsewhere secured with ice axe hooking, mostly it went very easy because mostly on path and no excessive steepness. Snow just enough not to be indifferent on slopes and better to walk with crampons even if a bit scraping.
Sfinga movie was mix of parody of climbing Sfinga experience from times of Mojstrana squirrels and fully instant modern times. Old time alpinists arrived to Vrata with Fiat ušesar in film seemingly right through barrier, younger two with Subaru Impreza grumbling they could drive to Aljažev dom if no barrier. Back then instead of nuts for protection in crack they used homemade wooden chocks with loop and hammered into pockets and jams. Wall they overcame with wooden hanging clogs because no climbing shoes then. In film Tomaž Humar and Pavle Kozjek should appear, which would indisputably make film more authentic, technical, witty, with more mountaineer soul and less modern inserts. Spiritual content spiced by Sfinga herself speaking as elevated inaccessible petrified goose fairy who doesn't allow climbing on her eternal natural unspoiled face. Approacher who strived for years on ascent past her face and climbed it was approved by her, saying he devoted years of attention and put effort into dreams. Yeah, after movie time for questions and long nobody asked anything, then Kresal told an anecdote. Kid, 9 years old, says don't bullshit me that car goes just like that over barrier without lifting it.

Vrtača is beauty, yes. Especially winter, when fully covered in snow. This year December, right after snowfall. Winter far from end (or even started? ), so best still coming.

With my friend we went today to Vrtača. Up the southern gully, where conditions are great, well frozen, snow hard, today it was squeaking. I don't know why everyone rushes early right towards Palec and there into the gully where we descended (don't know the name of that gully - Y? central?), because conditions in that gully are worse, snow gets very mushy, gully is shorter and except for the steep ten meters nothing special. Definitely recommend the southern gully up and down. It was cold though, very.
