Triglav

Description of mountain:
Triglav is a 2,864 m high mountain located in the heart of the Julian Alps. At this altitude, it is the highest mountain in Slovenia and also the highest peak in the Julian Alps. On the summit stands the Aljaž Tower, erected in 1895 by Jakob Aljaž, who was then the parish priest in Dovje. The Aljaž Tower can shelter up to five people during a storm. Today, it is protected as a cultural monument and plays an important role in preserving cultural heritage.
Triglav was first ascended on 26 August 1778 by four brave men, whose monument stands in Bohinj. These men were Luka Korošec, Matevž Kos, Štefan Rožič, and Lovrenc Willomitzer.
From the summit of Triglav, a beautiful view opens up, stretching from the Adriatic Sea across the Dolomites and the High Tauern to the Karawanks, the Kamnik-Savinja Alps, Pohorje, and across almost the entire country of Slovenia to the highest peaks of the Julian Alps.
